When you became a father what were your expectations?
I didn't go in with too many expectations because you just don't know. I mean, you really don't; you're really kind of on your own. You're the first responder to everything, it's the most important thing in your life, and you just kind of learn as you go.
I was so fortunate because Jeanne’s just so amazing, such an amazing mom. She's one of nine children so there's a lot of experience on that side. She's been the best teacher of how to be a parent that I could have.
Looking back, what are some of your favorite memories?
You know, there's so many. When you go back and actually look at photographs, not things on your phone, and find those pictures where they're just asleep in your arms or those moments around the table or outside in the yard. I mean, they've just been such unbelievable kids. They have made us look good as parents.
They all have such a kind heart, and that to me is their best quality. They get that from their mom.
Jeanne gets the credit for that?
She gets all the credit for sure!
You’re going to become a father-in-law soon. How do you feel about that?
It hasn't fully hit me in a lot of ways because they've dated since they were 15, so he's always been a part of our family—now it's official.
My father-in-law was just the greatest guy on the planet and he treated me just like his sons. I have such a great example with him, honestly. So I want to channel that.
What’s your ideal way to spend Father’s Day?
Just having us together, that's the main thing. Really just having that time, those laughs, and everybody together.
